Employees and teachers from across the state marched to the Assembly House and later also sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Addressing the gathering, the President of the Teachers and Employees Mahasangh Ajai Singh demanded scrapping of the state governemnt's decision to merge their dearness allowance with the basic salary with effect from April 1 last year instead of April 2004.

He also opposed the decision of the government to "forcibly" send state employees to Uttaranchal.

Singh said the teachers and employees would resort to a three-day strike from January 25 next if their demands were not conceded to.
