"We join our colleagues in Bangladesh in demanding immediate action against those responsible for these flagrant attacks," said CPJ executive director, Ann Cooper, referring to attack on a journalists' rally and the office of local Andoloner Bazar daily three days ago in western Kushtia district.

Quoting Bangladesh media, the CPJ in a statement released in New York yesterday said the attackers were supporters of Shahidul Islam, MP, of ruling BNP.

Among the 20 injured journalists, was Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, president of a journalists' union.
