Talking to newspersons, Rao said realising the fact that Nano Science would provide futuristic technology, the government has allocated special funds for its development. “The government has earmarked Rs 60 crore for setting up 14 centres at various engineering colleges of the country to provide educational facilities to the students in this new branch of science,” he said.

“Though intensive research programmes are being carried out in Nano Science but these are not adequate to exploit its advantages.

“We need to develop innovative models of different goods and materials to be made with the nano technology to open new vistas for the future generation,” he added.

He said Nano Science had great promises for the future generation but the question was, “Would our efforts be able to share the promises”? He said good work was being done in this branch at the IIT-K. The institute would soon set up a Nano Science and a Nano Technology Centre for promoting futuristic technology , he added.

He said it was encouraging that more and more children were attracted towards the study of science. In order to give them clear concept, he has ventured to write four books titled “Learning Science”.
