This goverment "advisory" came on Thursday after the Delhi chief secretary reviewed what the power situation would be during peak winter. The prediction is grim.
A poor monsoon has reduced supply from hydro power stations. Peak demand is expected to be around 3,300 MW from December 15 to January-end, but there could be a shortage of about 150 MW.
"We are talking to power trading firms, but are not getting any firm commitment due to the paucity of hydropower," an official said. Transco has asked people to reduce load during peak hours: 6 am to 10 am and 6 pm to 9 pm. From 11 pm to 6 am, the city would have excess 800 MW of power. People should switch on their appliances then.
