"The IPO would, however, not affect the public sector character of the airline and it will not be privatised," he told reporters in New Delhi.

The proceeds of the IPO are expected to be ploughed into activities like expanding the fleet of the airline, which was earlier merged with its sister carrier Indian.

Patel, however, did not give any time frame. "This is one area of intent... It (IPO) will bring in much-needed liquidity infusion and also accountability."
