However, the Y4E members had begun their hunger strike at 2.30 pm, claimed a member. He also said that none of the students would miss normal classes and working, or duty. Another Y4E member said that the aim was that no common man should suffer because of the protest. “We are not against the people but the government only,” he added.
Earlier, addressing mediapersons, junior doctors said that the Union Cabinet’s approval to OBC quota in higher education was nothing but cheating. They said that the matter was pending in the Supreme Court and it was on the directive of the Apex Court that the Youth For Equality members had called off their protest. But when the students were sitting silent, the Union Cabinet approved OBC quota. One of the students, Utkarsh said that it was high time that students came out and protested the Union Government’s move.
Utkarsh, however, said that if they were unable to win the battle with the Union Government, at least he has decided to leave the country. He said though he wanted to work in the country but it the government does not want general students.
Another student while disclosing the future course of action, said that a group of about three dozen students remaining on hunger strike would leave for New Delhi where Y4E members have planned to gherao Parliament, on the last day of the Monsoon Session.
