Guj cops secure police custody of blast accused

Gujarat police secured custody of one more July 26 serial blast accused Mohammad Arif till December 1, after he was brought from Lucknow on a transit warrant, police said.

Gujarat police on Sunday secured custody of one more July 26 serial blast accused Mohammad Arif till December 1, after he was brought from Lucknow on a transit warrant, police said.

"Arif, who hails from Azamgadh in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police and is accused in terror attacks in Ahmedabad, Delhi and Jaipur," Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) V R Toliya told PTI.

"He was produced before the magistrate at his residence after bringing him to city on a transit warrant from Lucknow," Toliya, who is one of the investigating officers in the serial blasts case, said.

"The magistrate sent Arif to police custody till December 1," he added.

The city crime branch has already submitted a 2000-page chargesheet in the serial blasts case against 26 accused. They has also name 51 absconders.

The chargesheet was filed on Novmber 12 in connection with the blast at the city civil hospital and the LG hospital.

The Surat police too have also filed a chargesheet against two -- Tanveer Pathan and Zaheer Patel in the Surat bomb planting case.
