The Election Commission had issued orders for transfer of Mehsana SP N D Solanki and Sabarkantha SP A K Sharma on the grounds that their presence would "not be conducive" for the poll process.

"The two officials have not yet been transfered. We have got Election Commission's instructions to transfer them immediately but their file is under process", Home secretary K Nityanandam told PTI on Saturday and refused to comment as to when a decision would be taken to clear the files relating to their transfers.

The Election Commission in its letter to the state chief secretary had said that the presence of two SPs would "not be conducive to conduct free and fair elections in the state".

"These officials should be transferred forthwith and replaced by suitable officers," the Commission had directed.

In a strongly-worded letter, the Election Commission had directed the state government that these officials should not be given any election-related work, including maintenance of law and order.
