Abdul Kabeer, 35, says he was beaten up Sunday outside his lawyer's office after a meeting with his sponsor and Indian managers over the case, according to Gulf Daily News.

Bahrain's Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into the incident.

The sponsor Hussain Al Qahtan, who runs a construction company, has, however, denied all charges.

He says the Indian worker in question had run away from the company last month so he could work visa free and earn more money.

Speaking to Bahrain Tribune, Qahtan said his company had permission from the police to apprehend the worker since he was an illegal. He claimed he had not assaulted Kabeer.

The lawyer of the Indian worker dismissed claims that Kabeer was a runaway, noting that the sponsor had not registered a case against him after he allegedly ran away.

"We have filed a case of attempted kidnapping, assault and attempted murder. We hope justice will be on our side," the lawyer said.
