Gurgaon cracks down on late night party animals who drink and drive
The police have launched an aggressive late night drive against drink driving. As many as 109 drivers, six of them women, have been booked so far. Sanjeev K Ahuja reports.

The police have launched an aggressive late night drive against drink driving. As many as 109 drivers, six of them women, have been booked so far.
Three drivers were arrested as the alcohol content found in their blood was higher than 100 mg/ml. The permissible limit is 30 mg/ml.
Gurgaon police have booked 3,354 people for drinking and driving since January. As many as 2,600 of them were booked in June and July.
Deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) S.K. Gupta said 12 teams equipped with breath analyzers (alco-meters) would be deputed at various fast stretches of major roads, especially near malls and pubs, between 9 pm and midnight on weekdays and till 3 am on weekends.
“Gurgaon, especially East Gurgaon (also called New Gurgaon) that has a number of malls and pubs on MG Road, has a very high tendency of drink driving incidents. Most of the teams would be deployed here and others at the major roads such as Gurgaon Expressway, ” Gupta said.
Each of these teams would be headed by a zonal officer of assistant sub-inspector rank, the deputy commissioner added.
“The drive against late night drink driving began last Wednesday,” Gupta said.
While all teams will be operational on all evenings, except Tuesdays and Thursdays, till midnight, a couple of them will man MG Road till 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays, he said.
Gupta said incidents like road rage, accidents and other road-related crimes have also come down in the past two months.
