Prasoon would be administered the oath of office by chief justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul on June 13. Now, the strength of judges in the high court will reach 42 against the sanctioned strength of 68.

The President has appointed additional judges of the high court, Paramjeet Singh, Naresh Kumar Sanghi and Rameshwar Singh Malik, as permanent judges. All three judges had taken oath as additional judges of the high court on September 28, 2011.

The high court had recommended names of four district judges from Punjab and three from Haryana for elevation to the high court in February but only Prasoon's name has been cleared till now. Others are high court registrar general Surender Gupta, Punjab district judges Fateh Deep Singh (Ferozepur), Jaspal Singh (Bathinda) and Mahavir Singh Chauhan (Sangrur). Haryana district judges whose names had been recommended were Anita Chaudhary (Panchkula) and Ramendra Jain (Jind).

In March, the high court collegium had recommended names of eight advocates of the high court for elevation as judges. These are Girish Agnihotri, Arun Palli, Vinod Ghai, HS Sidhu, Manisha Gandhi, BS Rana, Gurminder Singh and Rajkaran Singh Brar. But final clearance on their names is awaited.
