Some unidentified armed men allegedly shot at a youth and fled with his silver-coloured Honda City car near Vishwabharti School in Sector 28 here on Sunday night.
The victim has been identified as Tushar Gaud, 27, a resident of Gurgaon. He has been admitted to the Kailash Hospital. His condition is said to be critical. “He has been shot in the stomach and is in the ICU,” said a doctor. Police said the Gaud is a trader and was shot at while he was talking to his friend over phone. He had come to Noida to meet a friend.
Eyewitnesses said the three youths walked up to the victim and shot at him. The incident took place at 8.30pm. They said the attackers, after committing the crime, fled towards Sector 18 market. However, it is learnt that they later fled towards Delhi.
SP (city) Anant Deo took the victim to the hospital.
On the basis of information provided by passersby, the police in border areas have been alerted to look for vehicles similar to the victim’s.
Preliminary inquiries have been initiated. “We are investigating if the youth was attacked over some personal enmity or the intention of the men was to loot his car. Once he is able to talk, we will record his statement,” said a police officer.
“Raids are being conducted and the culprits would be nabbed soon,” the officer added.
Of late, cases of car loot have been on the rise in Noida, with police failing to break several inter-state networks active in the area.
