'Half of pending cases can be disposed off through Lok Adalats'
The Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court on Saturday said nearly half of the huge backlog of cases can be disposed off through Lok Adalats and mediation centers.
The Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court on Saturday said nearly half of the huge backlog of cases can be disposed off through Lok Adalats and mediation centers.
"Around three crore cases are pending before various courts in the country. Nearly 50 per cent of the cases are of such a nature that they can be dispossed off through Lok Adalats and mediation centres," Tirath Singh Thakhur said while speaking after inaugurating the new court complex at Naraingarh in Ambala.
He said the Legal Service Authority of Punjab and Haryana High Court had settled around 5 lakh cases through mutual understating in 2008 while in the current year, around 58000 cases have been disposed off in a similar way.
Thakhur said there was great need to increase the number of courts and judges to give speedy justice to the people and asked lawyers to offer their constructive support to reduce the load of the courts.
