Following large number of complaints by the people about illegal mining activities in various parts of the district to extract sand, khaddo stones and bajri, the district administration has gone tough and has taken many steps to curb the problem of growing mining mafia.

During a surprise raid conducted by the Hamirpur additional district magistrate (ADM) Himanshu Shekhar Chaudhary in the Bharmoti area of Nadaun revenue sub-division of the district, two JCB machines and two tractors were confiscated that were being used by the mining mafia to extract material from the khad.

Assisted by Nadaun sub divisional magistrate Balbir Thakur and a team of police personnel, Chaudhary personally took action and directed the mining department to ensure that no mining was being carried out nearby the bridges and drinking water supply schemes in any part of the district.

He said the defaulters would be booked under the law of land and severe punishment would be granted.
Chaudhary urged the people to report the matter to the district administration either on phone or in writing if anyone was indulging in illegal mining in any area of the district.

It is pertinent that the ADM had visited many khads and Beas River area of the district earlier too and had struck heavily against the mining mafia. Mining is strictly banned in most of the khads of the district as per the orders of the state government.
