According to unofficial sources, Handloom Board director Sandeep Singh Thakur approached the main gate with several people in two four-wheelers and a few two-wheelers. After security check, some of them were allowed into the outer compound.

Thakur then sought a meeting with the jailed legislator but the authorities refused permission, saying the time for visiting inmates was over.

Thakur alleged that he reached the main gate at about 1 pm and informed the personnel on duty about the purpose of his visit. He further alleged that on the pretext of wrong timing, the jail authorities did not allow them to meet the leader and even manhandled the student leaders accompanying him.

Some of them received minor injuries due to the lathicharge by the police personnel on duty, he alleged.

According to Thakur, those who were injured were Pankaj Dixit and Nagendra Singh. Besides, one of the motorcycles was also damaged in the incident.

Former president of BND College Annu Thakur, general secretary of DAV Law College Shailendra Singh, former president of Law College Aridaman Singh and joint secretary of the Bar Association Raghvendra Singh accompanied him.

Thakur said though the matter was reported to the Kotwali police, they said they had not received any information about the incident.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Thakur expressed concern over the incident.

He also said that the State government was not likely to take any action against the guilty jail officials, so they had decided to raise the issue before the Governor through a memorandum.

Besides, the issue would also be raised with the Union Law Minister, he said.

Efforts to contact the jail superintendent were in vain, while the other jail authorities,on condition of anonymity, denied any such incident.
