All the District Basic Education Officers have been instructed to give a final shape to the plan of honouring the best teachers in November this year.
Assistant Director Basic, Ram Saran Singh said that hardworking teachers would be awarded to encourage those teachers who do not comply with their duty properly.
Sources said that the Education Department had been trying to bring changes among teachers for last two years especially those who did not come to school regularly. Their performance was reported to be poor at their respective schools.
Rural teachers go to the school just to put their signature in the register and engage in other duties.
This time the department does not want to take action against erring teachers but to reward good teachers in a big manner. Though this idea could not bring any fruitful result last year due to lack of communication among the officers themselves. Teachers too were not aware about such department plans.
This time three teachers having teaching skills, well disciplined and leadership qualities will be selected from every block by a committee comprising of Assistant Basic Shiksha Adhikari, Coordinator Block Development Centre and Senior headmaster of block. All selected teachers would be felicitated at a district level function to be held in November.
Meanwhile, a section of teachers said that nobody inquires about the numerous non-teaching tasks the government imposes on them. These tasks range from enumeration for surveys of every conceivable kind to duty in local, provincial and parliamentary elections.
