BJP candidate for Pichhore seat in Shivpuri district and party’s chief ministerial candidate Uma Bharti’s elder brother Swami Prasad Lodhi appears to have furnished false information in the affidavit with the nomination papers he filed before the returning officer on Thursday.

The new directives of the Election Commission make it mandatory for candidates to file affidavits listing all pending criminal cases against them.

In the affidavit, copy of which is in the possession of Hindustan Times, Uma’s brother didn’t even mention the cases in which he had already been acquitted. He stated ‘No’ against the information sought about pending cases, cases in which the court has taken cognizance and also the cases in which he was acquitted.

Sources told Hindustan Times that Lodhi was involved in several cases ranging from murder to attempt to murder. Some years ago, a large quantity of explosives was found at his residence. Though Swami was acquitted in some cases, some others are still pending against him.

A case was registered against Swami Lodhi in April 1993 under section 147, 148, 149, 294 and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and is still being investigated by Bhopal branch of CID,
according to sources.

Another case of attempt to murder is pending in the Jabalpur High Court against the Sadhvi’s brother. A lower court in the case registered against him in December 1988 had acquitted Lodhi. But the case was taken to the High Court in December 1990 and is still pending.

Yet another case registered against Lodhi is under section 342, 323 and 34 of IPC pending in court. All these cases were registered against Lodhi in Badagaon police station of Tikamgarh , the home district of Uma Bharti, sources added.

Sitting BJP MLA and candidate from Vijaypur in Sheopur district Babulal Mewra, is also involved several cases. While a case registered against him in June, 1987 under section 147, 353, 332 of IPC is pending in court, another registered under section 294, 341, 147 and 149 of IPC is under investigation.

Cases of murder and attempt to murder are pending against the Samajwadi Party leader Rasaal Singh, a sitting MLA from Raun in Bhind district, who recently joined the BJP. The case in question was registered in Amaayan police station of the district under sections 302, 307, 149, 147 and 148 of IPC in 1998.

These cases are under police investigation. He however, was acquitted in another case of murder in February 1991. Several cases are pending against the Sagar based Bidi industrialist, Harnam Singh Rathore, who is sitting MLA from Banda. He was acquitted in a murder case , three cases are still pending against him under cantonment police station of Sagar registered under section 325, 146, 148, 149, 294, 323, 427 and 452 of IPC.
