Even the Emergency Medical Officer Dr SK Jauhari and other hospital staff didn’t bother to attend to the old woman. Despite several requests by this correspondent to check the woman, the EMO, kept lying on the bed in the doctor’s rest room in the emergency, chatting on the phone.
The old woman kept lying at the entrance of the emergency ward for four hours.
During that time over two-dozen doctors and other para-medical staff passed that way, saw the woman but nobody bothered to help her.
The incident has exposed the apathy of the police department and medical fraternity.
MK Mishra, who is the cycle-stand contract of at emergency of UHM hospital said, “Two woman homeguards brought the old woman to the hospital and after putting her down on the pavement, they disappeared.”
Even a local Samajwadi Party woman leader who came to the hospital silently moved away when she was asked to bear the responsibility to get the woman admitted.
It was finally left to Santosh, who is not on the hospital staff and only carries dead bodies, took out a stretcher and with the help of this correspondent and photographer of this newspaper, shifted the woman to bed no. 2 of NB II ward of the emergency.
