This will help the research and development activities at the institute.

Talking to Hindustan Times, institute’s registrar TDS Chauhan said the Finance Committee approved the proposal for roistering-free power supply.

The plan would involve an expenditure of over Rs 2 crore. Under the plan, the KESCo would install a separate transformer at the institute to supply continuous power, he added .

However, the residents of the west campus, which was about four km away from the institute, would not get the benefits of the uninterrupted power supply, he said. He said, “It will not be possible to lay either the underground or the overhead cables to supply power to the campus.”

He said to provide power to the hostels situated in the west campus, three power generators each of 3.65 KVA capacity would be purchased.

The tenders for the supply of these generators were released and the purchases would be made soon, he added. He said, “A new library building with a budget Rs 1.38 crore is being constructed near the Mechanical Department.”

It was expected that the construction of the library might be completed by the March 2007, he said.

There was a proposal to set up a digital library but at the initial stages, the new library would not have this facility, he added.
