Governor & Chancellor Dr Balram Jakhar removed Gupta on basis of the findings of a single-member committee constituted to look into the financial, administrative and academic irregularities allegedly committed by Gupta.

The petition filed by Gupta today came up for preliminary hearing before Justice S S Kemkar. The court granted four weeks’ time to the respondents to file the reply.

The petitioner’s counsels, senior advocate Rajendra Tiwari and Udayan Tiwari, contended that the Governor & Chancellor’s order to remove their client was against the provisions of section 13 of the Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya Act, 1995.

Further, the circumstances in the university were normal when the Governor & Chancellor removed Gupta, said the lawyers. Dr S N Verma was appointed as the new vice-chancellor of the technology university in place of Gupta on the same day when Gupta was removed.
