Relaxing its own previous order, Rajasthan High Court on Saturday permitted the state government to use SMSStadium in Jaipur for purpose of assembly elections.
A division bench consisting of Justice FC Bansal and SK Keshote allowed the state government to use eastern part of the open land outside the stadium and its southern pavilion for assembly election purposes from November 20 to December 5.
The court gave this permission on an application filed by the state government through chief secretary and others.
It had earlier banned use of stadium and its land other than for sports activities.
However it held on Saturday that it may be used by the government for public purpose or to discharge public duty.
The stadium space is traditionally used by Government for parking vehicles requisitioned for election duty and for making arrangements to send polling parties by deploying staff.
