Health Ministry directs hospitals to recruit docs

Union Health Ministry asked the Medical Superintendents (MS) of hospitals to come out with advertisements.

Amid continuing stalemate between medicos and the government, Union Health Ministry on Thursday asked the Medical Superintendents (MS) of hospitals to come out with advertisements for recruitment of doctors.

"We have asked the MS of hospitals under the Union Health Ministry to advertise for recruitment of doctors," officials said.

Recruitments are proposed to take place through "walk in interview", they said.

The stalemate over the issue continued on Thursday as representatives of the Resident Doctors Association of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences met Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss and Union Minister Oscar Fernandes

"The discussions will continue," the doctors said after the meeting.

The Health Ministry officials said that several doctors at AIIMS had resumed their duties and OPD services and casualty were running.

"There were 134 new admissions and 33 surgeries carried out at the institute today," they said.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Safdarjung Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Lady Harding Medical College and Hospital are governed by the Union Government.
