Heavy rain leaves city waterlogged

City experienced heavy rainfall since the wee hours on Saturday, which continued for several hours till noon. The major markets including wholesale market at Dalmandi, Harha Sarai, Raja-Darwaja, Deenan Golanath, Thatheri Bazar, Vishweshwarganj etc. witnessed very few buyers.

Though several districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh including Varanasi have experienced less rain in the month of July and August but heavy drizzle for several hours on Saturday brought smiles on the faces of farmers who were facing drought-like situation in this region for the last one month.

Continuous and heavy rainfall compelled the citizens to confine themselves in the houses. School kids and office goers faced a lot of difficulties. Some private schools declared a holiday in the wake of heavy rainfall.

Several low lying areas including Samneghat, Ravindrapuri, Gurudham, Kamachcha, Bhelupur, Sigra, Mehmoorganj, Godowlia, Nai Sarak, Gurubagh etc., witnessed enormous waterlogging. People preferred to go through lanes and by-lanes to escape from waterlogging.

Waterlogging could be witnessed at on Lanka-Bhelupur Road, Gurudham, Ravindrapuri, Bhelupur-Godowlia Road, Reori Talab area, Ramapura and Godowlia crossing. In Ramapura area, thigh-deep water was witnessed and two-wheeler drivers faced a challenging situation to cross the area. Engines of several two-wheelers were choked due to waterlogging.
