Heavy to very heavy rain are expected at some places over south Orissa for next two days. The cyclonic storm is likely to trigger rain or thundershower at many places over south Orissa and at a few places over northern region of the state. Squally wind having 50 to 60 kmph speed is likely to occur along and off Orissa coast and sea condition would be rough, they said.

Environmental conditions and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models suggest that the system is likely to move in a northwesterly to northerly direction and cross Andhra Pradesh coast near Bapatla, the officials said.

The system is likely to move northeastwards across Orissa after the landfall, it said.

Meanwhile, the state government has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea and directed district authorities to remain prepared with manpower and materials to deal with any eventuality and keep cyclone shelters ready, officials said.
