Dard-e-Sherlyn is inspired by the Dard track from Hema Malini’s Dus Numbari and the raunchy video received no less than 19 cuts from the censor board.

The cuts have made it popular online and made it so “safe”that it could now be shown on Disney and Pogo, the singer said.

Sherlyn is unapologetic: “I wanted to show the world what the Dream Girl of a new era would be like. (Hema’s) style is subtle yet sensual and mine is sexual, so combining the two makes for the perfect tribute”.

Sherlyn believes today’s generation is “more forthright and in your face” and that “nudity is no big deal”. The woman who grew up singing hymns is unabashed about her sexual appeal. On being called a sophisticated Rakhi Sawant, she said, “I’m a Mercedes and she’s a Nano. People say Nano is the choice of the masses, but heads turn when a Mercedes is on the road, right?”

Hema was taken aback by the tribute. “It’s very hot haan? My God I don’t even know why she’s linking me with a hot-hot thing.” She added, “She is trying to change her image, maybe with my name. If she’s doing this, poor thing, I wish her success, for all those who want to see nudity will be happy. But my name is Hema Malini and that won’t change for anything. “It’s so sweet of her to think of me, God bless her.” Sherlyn’s response to the iconic star is, “I appreciate her kind words but she comes from a different era. Nudity isn’t outrageous anymore, what’s evil about it?”
