Medicine company Pfizer formally launched Viagra tablet, male potency enhancing tablet, here today. The company has priced a single tablet of Viagra at Rs 463 whereas the cost of four such indigenous tablets is Rs 90.
Speaking on the unveiling of the potency enhancing tablet Diwakar Shukla, who works in a private company, said, “I feel that people have been awaiting the medicine for long to get rid of their impotency related problem.”
However, doctors felt the cost of Viagra was too much in comparison to its Indian varieties. Dr BD Mangal, head of the Department of Medicine, GSVM Medical College, said, “Indian brands are equally good and are available at much lower cost in comparison to Viagra”.
He added, “Viagra is harmful to heart patients but it is a boon in the treatment of Primary Pulmonar Hypertension afflicted patients besides patients having erectile dysfunction”.
However, president of Dava Vyapar Mandal Sanjay Malhotra said, “It is a ploy by multinational companies to monopolise the Indian medicine market by getting patent of various life saving drugs. Our fight is against it.”
