Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium, who was appearing for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, had opposed HI’s claim to field the team for CWG.

He said that the procedure for entry of teams in the CWG was different from other international events and IOA alone field the teams. Subramanium argued that sports bodies such as HI did not comprise of experts . He, however, failed to convince the Court.

IOA backed HI and said that IOA had to consider suggestions of the associations and federations affiliated to it. She added that the IOA recognised only HI as the national federation representing the sport.
