This has reference to Tarun Das’s article Life after the nuclear deal (July 17). The Indo-US nuclear deal was signed when George Bush was the US President. So we are yet to hear from Barack Obama about the future of the deal and relations between India and the US. The visit of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, thus, holds a lot of importance. India’s ties with the superpower are crucial for national development and position in the international community. Obama’s stand on the nuclear deal will determine the extent of India’s self-reliance in the energy sector.
