Activists of a Hindu outfit on Sunday barged into a church at Bada village, about 20km from Devanagere, and ransacked furniture and tore books alleging people were being forcibly converted into christianity, police said.
Activists of Hindu Jagaran Vedike stormed the church soon after the Sunday morning prayers were completed, they said.
Tension gripped the village following the incident with villagers deserting their houses fearing more attacks.
Eleven persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police said the situation was under control.
Police clamped prohibitory orders in the village as a precautionary measaure.
