Over 40 doctors became the ‘honeybee sting operation’. The doctors were listening to the lectures on ‘Continued Medical Education on Breast Cancer’ at the Lecture Theater-3 of the GSVMC.
The attack of honeybees was so severe that four doctors were to be admitted to the emergency ward of LLR hospital where they were given first-aid. Several experts had gathered at the LT-3 hall of the GSVM medical college to attend the seminar. They were discussing about the remedial measures of breast cancer.
At 11.30 am a cook ignited the tandoor on the corridor and smoke emanated from it infuriated the honey bees which were resting in their beehive near the place where the tandoor was kept.
Soon, hundreds of honey bees entered the conference room and started targeting the doctors and some medical representatives present there. In what could be best described as the scene of a comedy movie, the doctors panicked started taking refuge under the tables and chairs kept in the conference hall. However, their efforts came to naught as the honeybees continued to attack till the delegates vacated. When the doctors came to know of the cause of the attack, they removed the tandoor from the corridor.
Both Dr Sanjay Kala and his, after being stung by honeybees, narrated their tale of woes. They said, “Around 11.30 am when we were listening to the eminent doctors who have come from different parts of the state, I saw some women doctors writhing in pain.
By the time I could realize what happened, we were attacked by honeybees.” Other doctors said after seeing honeybees hundreds in number, they hid beneath the tables and chairs, but that did not help.
Though seminar began after two hours, the doctors were seen concentrating on various entry points rather than paying attention to the conference.
