Stuart A Davis, CEO (India) HSBC, said that the bank has a home loan portfolio of about Rs 5,000 crore.

“We are strongly growing our mortgage business in the country and want to be seen as one of the prominent players,” Davis told Hindustan Times.

The move could spell good news for the job market as well, as the bank would also need to expand its staff strength to support the move. “We would have to grow our staffs as well.”

Davis said that the focus would be the main metros in the initial phase.

“We would stick to the bigger cities, at this stage we have no plans to enter the smaller towns in any big way,” he said.
