People were also fined for causing damage to roads.

The team of Huda officials issued challans to over 50 people in Sectors 4, 7, 15, 40, 9, 10 and other places. The department collected R10, 000 as fine amount on Thursday.

While the minimum amount charged from offenders is

R200, the fine can increase depending upon the amount of water misused by people and subsequent damage to roads etc.

“We decide the fine amount on the spot. However, it varies from person to person. We also check the quantity of water being misused,” said a Haryana Urban Development Authority official, who claimed that the Huda had earned over

R70, 000 in the last two months from people fined for misusing water.
