They were protesting against a move to transfer them to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) as they would not get staff quarters there.

Fulfilling the long-pending demand to transfer maintenance of HUDA sectors to MCG, the Haryana government recently gave its nod to transfer two dozen HUDA sectors falling under the jurisdiction of MCG.

These sectors, which have been maintained by HUDA for decades, and which will now be transferred to MCG are Sector 3 Extension, 4, 5, 6 (some part of it), 7, 7 Extension, 9, 9A, 10, 10A, 12, 14, 15 (part 1 and 2), 17, 21, 22, 23, 23A, Industrial Estate 18, 47 and two urban estates.

Balwan Singh, representing the staffers, said, "All employees have settled in staff quarters with their families. If we vacate these, where will our families go? Some children are studying in schools."

At least 800 employees are likely to be transferred from HUDA to MCG.

HUDA administrator Nitin K Yadav said, "Their memorandum has been forwarded to the department concerned."
