HuJI chief arrested in Jammu

The Jammu head of the Bangladesh-based militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami (HuJI) has been arrested, police in this Jammu & Kashmir winter capital said today, reports Tarun Upadhyay.

Jammu police on Monday claimed to have arrested Harkat-ul-Jehad Islami (HuJI) chief of Jammu & Kashmir. Police said the arrested terrorist was involved in the planning of serial blasts in Uttar Pradesh and also was involved in the killing of 5 GREF personnel including Commanding Officer (CO) Ajay Verma in Sinthan area of Kishtwar district in Jammu province.

Addressing a press conference here DIG Jammu-Kathua range AQ Manhas, along with SSP Jammu Manohar Singh, said arrested terrorist has been identified as Suhail Faisal s/o Ghulam Ahmed r/o Chingam, Kishtwar. DIG said on Sunday night team of state police along with personnel of CRPF posted a check point near railway station arrested the said terrorist.

The police official said some arms and ammunition including one Chinese pistol was recovered from possession. During interrogation he gave information about the ammunition dumped in Kishtwar area and police team had already recovered one PIKA gun and hawala money of Rs 1.26 lakhs from there.

DIG claimed Suhail had crossed over to Pakistan along with 20 other youth in year 2000 and received terrorists training for one year. He remained there for six years and after crossing over to India he surrendered before state police and Army in January, 2001 in Rajouri. The police official said in June, 2007, he again joined HuJI and worked with then HuJI chief Saba who along with him (Suhail) was also involved in the planning of UP serial blasts .After Saba was gunned down by state police he was made state HuJI chief.
