About 10,000 marched in the centre of Kathmandu chanting slogans denouncing the king for his October 2002 dismissal of Nepal's elected government.
Police detained about 300 demonstrators, but there were no reports of injuries.
The demonstrations and arrests have become a regular occurrence in Kathmandu. So far, King Gyanendra and the country's five largest political parties, which have organised the rallies, have failed to meet to resolve the situation.
Last week, the parties refused the king's invitation for talks and vowed to press ahead with protests calling for a new government. They said they would settle for nothing less than a government that would include members from the five parties.
