The Crime Branch is looking for a gang of thugs who robbed and killed a young Infosys executive on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway earlier this week. Sleuths are combing localities in Navi Mumbai and suburban Marol and Khar.
The body of Vikram Poddar, bearing multiple stab wounds, was found in the thickets off the expressway on Thursday. Neither the Pune police nor Infosys was willing to disclose details, but a spokeswoman for the Bangalore-based software major confirmed that Poddar was travelling to Mumbai from Pune.
It seems Poddar was last seen alive on Tuesday, at an unregistered taxi stand at Hinjewadi, close to the Infosys campus in Pune. He appears to have hired an Indica to go to Mumbai in it. It wasn't immediately known how many people were in the car when it left.
Poddar’s family lodged a missing complaint at the Hinjewadi police station, which was later changed to a case of kidnapping and murder, investigating officer Masaji Kale told the Hindustan Times.
The Crime Branch started pursuing the gang after it used Poddar's credit card over the next couple of days. Investigators followed the card's electronic trail to the sellers and obtained descriptions of the four suspected killers, including a woman.
