Hurriyat leader held with Rs 95,000 hawala cash

A Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz group) leader has been arrested with alleged hawala cash of nearly Rs 1 lakh recovered from his possession, police said today. Farooq Ahmad's car was intercepted on Monday at Thanamandi in Rajouri district with a search of the vehicle yielding Rs 95,000 in cash, officials added.

A Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz group) leader has been arrested with alleged hawala cash of nearly Rs 1 lakh recovered from his possession, police said on Tuesday.

Police intercepted Farooq Ahmad's car on Monday at Thanamandi in Rajouri district with a search of the vehicle yielding Rs 95,000 in cash, a police official said.

Ahmad, who was arrested following the discovery, is now being questioned to ascertain the source of the money and its destination, police added.

A case has been registered at Thanamandi police station as the investigation continues in the matter, police said.
