“Since I had become a liquor addict, I was paid a meager amount by these people within and outside India just to satisfy my limited requirements,” Kunwar Singh Yadav told reporters after his arrest by Varanasi police on Wednesday.

“Sometimes ‘they’ used to pay me Rs 500 and sometimes offer liquor or chicken.

That is all I used to take from these people,” he said, adding that in return, he had to brief them about the sensitive installations like the Gorkha Training Centre in Varanasi.

However, he added, “Believe me, I used to draw the maps myself and make sketches which would never match with what their requirements were. I have not done anything that in any way has had any effect on India’s interest.”

“Is dharti ke khilaf maine kuch nahi kiya hai,” he said.

When asked whether some pictures recovered from his possession were the same as that of GTC, Varanasi, the Navy deserter said the pictures had been taken from outside the GTC.

He admitted that he had knowledge about the Navy and its establishments in the country and designs of the ships, especially their interiors. “Therefore, I used to pass on such information to these people and did not have any knowledge if they were associated with the ISI,” he said.

Kunwar Singh Yadav, who was arrested from Rohania village on Wednesday, was produced before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Suresh Chander Arya who remanded him in 14 days’ judicial custody.
