Within hours of telecom regulator TRAI announcing new norms for levy paid by operators to BSNL, private cellular operator Idea has offered free outgoing calls for first two minutes for its pre-paid subscribers.
In three pre-paid vouchers of denominations of Rs 250, Rs 750 and Rs 2,000, subscribers would get talktime worth Rs 50, Rs 75 and Rs 200 respectively.
In the denomination of Rs 250 with a talktime of Rs 50, subscribers can talk free of cost for first two minutes on local mobile phones. While in the second category of Rs 750 with talktime of Rs 75 the subscribers can talk free for two minutes on all local calls.
In the third denomination of Rs 2,000 with a talktime of Rs 200, all outgoing calls (local and STD) would be free for first two minutes.
All vouchers are valid for 30 days.
"We feel that about 90 per cent of the calls, be it local or STD, are less than two minutes of duration and therefore, new tariff package for pre-paid users has been designed keeping in mind this factor," an Idea Cellular official said.
Other cellular operators have yet to come out with new tariff packages.
