A sit-in was organised at the office of the regional provident fund commissioner by the IEL Mazdoor Union in protest against the employers’ failure to deposit the provident fund amount into the respective accounts of its employees.

The IEL Mazdoor union alleged that since 2002 provident fund had not been deposited by the management even though it was deducted from the salary of the employees. More than 200 employees have been engaged on contract basis by the management but since 2002 no contribution has been made into the provident fund accounts of these employees by the management.

President of the union, Ramji Tripathi, alleged that retired employees and dependent of deceased employees had also not received the provident fund amount. Tripathi alleged that the employers in connivance with the senior officials of provident fund office had bungled the hard earned money of the employees.

The IEL Mazdoor Union alleged that the pension amount of more than Rs 7.88 crore was also not deposited.

With this agitation the contentious issue of Duncan has once again gained momentum.

Earlier it was only the CITUthat used to stage anti-management demonstrations.

But now the IEL Mazdoor Union has taken the lead after the re-closure of the fertilizer plant on October 18, 2005.
