The traditional recruiters at the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have a new competitor the BPO sector and upcoming Indian companies. The gainers of course are IIM graduates, who are bagging the best offers with an average salary hike of 8-10 per cent.

Placement 2006, which ended on Monday, saw three major BPOs Genpact, US Tech and Global eprocure recruiting students from Ahmedabad, Calcutta and Bangalore for salaries ranging between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 16 lakh.

“The money offered is comparable to leading multinationals and top investment bankers. They are the biggest surprise this year in IIM placements,” said an IIM-A official.

This year, for the first time an Indian bank, ICICI, has hired graduates from IIM Bangalore and Ahemdabad for a whopping salary of over Rs 12 lakh for its London office.
