The HRD Ministry had earlier rejected the IIM Bangalore's proposal to open a campus in Singapore. Following this, there were talks that all the IIMs would join hands and request the government again.

Singh told a TV channel that as of now there is no provision in their Memorandum of Association to establish campuses abroad.

Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani has supported Singh's views. He said the IIMs should first fulfill the aspirations of the Indian youth before looking to open campuses abroad.
