MEMBERS OF the Indian Medical Association have come out in support of the junior doctors’ strike in the State.

They wore black ribbons to register their protest against assault on junior doctors in Nauchandi Express by PTS jawans.
Speaking at a Press conference, vice-president of the Gorakhpur branch of IMA Dr AK Srivastav said doctors’ community had extended full support to the junior doctors. “They will decide the line of action and we will participate in all their programmes,” he said.
Secretary of the association Dr VN Singh said criminal cases should be lodged against the accused.
He said the IMA would take to the streets if government failed to take positive steps.
Expressing his views on this occasion, vice-president of JDA Ashish Gangwar and secretary Dr Jamal Haider said a meeting of all seven medical colleges of JDA was convened in Lucknow on Wednesday to discuss the future course of action.
They claimed that the Medical College Teachers’ Association had also extended their full support to the junior doctors’ call.
Condemning the dilly-dallying tactics of the State Government, Dr Gangwar said junior doctors could step up their agitation and “we will ask the political parties and other organisations for support”.
He said services of the accused should be terminated and compensation should be given to the injured.
Recounting the incident, Dr Kamlesh Sharma, who sustained serious injuries in the police action said it was a pre-planned attack by security personnel. He said about half-a-dozen security personnel entered coach number S-3 and asked women junior doctors to vacate their berths. When the doctors offered resistance, the security personnel threatened them with dire consequences.
He said the security personnel passed on a message to the PTS training centre in Moradabad. As the train reached Moradabad railway station platform number 5, the security personnel targeted coach S-3 and assaulted junior doctors. They kicked them, struck them with rifle butts, damaged windowpanes of the train and created panic at the station at mid-night.
Meanwhile, the junior doctors’ strike affected health services in the medical college. OPD and emergency services were affected. However, senior resident doctors were attending indoor patients.
