Referring to a recent discourse of Pope Benedict XVI in Bavaria, he said the Pope had said that people in the western societies had surrendered their soul to the rationalism of science. This had baffled the god-loving and god fearing believers in less developed countries where science had not grown to the extent of establishing total supremacy over the mind of people.
Delivering his key note address in the three day international Interfaith Congress on ‘ Religion and Modern Civilization’ organized by the Sociology department of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV) during the inaugural session here on Saturday, Nair said science and technology ahd brought about radical changes in all spheres of human life and had changed the whole face of the world.
Science had revealed to man the innermost secrets of nature and technology enabled him to apply the fruits of scientific discovery and innovation in everyday life.
Chairing the inaugural session, Sai Maa Lakshmi Devi of the Colorado in USA, spoke in detail about the existing scenario of world society. In terms of peace, she said, the mind had its own grace. The mind was a concentrated aspect of consciousness, and consciousness was grace. The difference between the self and mind was that the self shone by its own Light, whereas the mind and the ego were separate, yet sparkles of Light of consciousness and illuminated them.
As part of the technical session on the topic, Modern Civilization: Its impact on Mass Media and Vice - Versa, the head of the department of Journalism in Manglore University (Karnataka), Prof KV Nagraj expressed his views in details.
