Importance of sports for a healthy living discussed

Chief patron of National Sports Academy, Dr UK Mishra, invited the participants to express their views regarding the importance of sports in promoting health of the citizens of Allahabad. Director Academics of NSA Dr Shikha Chatterjee convened the proceedings while General A Parmar initiated and conducted the panel discussion and brain storming session.
Dr Mishra proposed that instead of being limited to sportsmen only, sports academy could create facilities for the general public. Sports could be utilised fruitfully to give a well chalked out health-building programme for the main work-force of the country ranging from 25 to 60 years of age. He said that sports could improve the efficiency of work force, which is the most pressing need of the hour.
Dr Lalit Varma remarked that sports and health were correlated and could naturally lead to happiness and longevity if a proper health programme was structured to cater to citizens of all age groups.
All assembled unanimously agreed that National Sports Academy could provide facilities for outdoor and indoor games, health care unit, meditation and yoga centre for hosting cultural events with the ultimate aim of improving the quality of life of the citizens of Allahabad for which space, ambience and atmosphere are available at Khel Gaon.
Proposals poured in for holding cultural functions as well besides physical fitness programmes. The Commissioner and District Magistrate both agreed to invite people of eminence in the field of medicine, yoga and music for holding sessions on the Academy premises. Dr Mishra expressly mentioned that the campus would be made readily available for all such functions that may benefit all.
The facilities created would cater to the needs of the women, children and elders of our society.
A health database of the members would be created to monitor their health programmes.
