Indian killed in Sharjah fire

A 35-year-old Indian resident of the UAE was burnt to death after a fire erupted in his apartment in Sharjah, police said.

A 35-year-old Indian resident of the UAE was burnt to death after a fire erupted in his apartment in Sharjah, police said.

The victim was trapped inside the apartment at the Sharjah Industrial Area and fire gutted all the furniture inside it. The cause of the incident of fire that occurred yesterday is yet to be determined.

A police official said that the Operations Control Room at the Sharjah Police received information at 12.30 am about the fire that erupted on the fourth floor of the residential building.

The police dispatched a team of Sharjah Civil Defence, Anjad patrols and ambulance services, which cordoned off the area in order to minimise casualties.

"The residential building was evacuated within minutes and the fire was put out after 10 minutes. The fire was contained to the victim's apartment and did not affect any other apartment or nearby buildings," said the official.

The police did not identify the victim but the official said he was working in the same area.
