The former Bundaberg Hospital surgeon will face separate criminal trials in Queensland's highest court after Australia's High Court decided to quash his previous convictions and ordered a new trial.
According to the Courier Mail, Director of Public Prosecutions Tony Moynihan, SC, announced on August 30 said that Patel would face three separate trials for the alleged manslaughter of three men and a fourth for causing grievous bodily harm.
A review of the case before Justice Glenn Martin heard that the trial would be tentatively carried from November 12.
Patel, 62, was jailed on June 29, 2010 after a Supreme Court jury found him guilty of three counts of manslaughter and grievous bodily harm, the report said.
Patel, however, walked free from after the High Court found that a miscarriage of justice had occurred on the 43rd day of the 58-day trial, opening the door to a retrial.
