Parambil was travelling to India when the authorities detained him at the airport.

His former employer, a large publishing house, had put his name on the country's absconders list.

Parambil told Yahind, a community website, that he was shocked at being detained with other absconders.

He said he called several officials to convince authorities that he worked with the Dubai Municipality.

Only timely help from a friend helped him avoid being sent to prison and being deported, he said.

Parambil, whose passport was cleared after senior officials at Sharjah immigration intervened, has blamed his former employers of doing nothing to resolve the issue after he had been wrongly arrested.
