Indians in UAE celebrate R Day with fervour

Indians in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday celebrated the 59th Republic Day of India with gaiety and enthusiasm.

Indians in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday celebrated the 59th Republic Day of India with gaiety and enthusiasm.

India's Ambassador to the UAE Talmiz Ahmad hoisted the tricolour at the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi in the presence of a large number of Indians.

He is also hosting an official reception in the evening to mark the occasion.

India's Consul General Venu Rajamony hoisted the national flag at the Indian High School in Dubai. He also read out excerpts from President Pratibha Patil's message.

Members of the Ajmal Ali Music Institute presented a cultural programme on the occasion. Among those present was yoga guru Ramdev who is currently in Dubai for a three-day yoga workshop being held as part of the ongoing Dubai Shopping Festival.
