INMATES AND the day scholars at the Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI) are passing through a severe environmental stress due to the callous attitude of the administration and the teachers of the institute. They feel that none of the officials or the teachers have any concern about their well being.

Their interests were being overlooked on some or the other pretexts.

The chief grouse of the hostlers is that every year at the end of the academic session, they were asked to mention in a prescribed form issued by the institute the facilities lacking at the hostels.

They expressed their views about the lacking facilities but no action was ever taken to provide the facilities required at the hostels. Most of the students wanted to have regular water and uninterrupted power supply to continue their studies.

Every year they were told that the proposal was sent to Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) for its sanction. The day sanction was received, the generator would be installed on the campus.

However, this year in the wake of growing resentment among the students the authorities have somehow managed a generator on Friday night to provide respite to the hostlers from the power woes.

Earlier, the institute authorities had asked the KESCo to provide rostering free power supply line but the matter could not be finalised due to several administrative and financial complexities.

Closure of canteen in the hostel campus has put the hostel inmates in dock. According to them they did not make arrangements for preparing even a cup of tea during the night due to power crisis and they were dependent upon the campus canteen, which was lying closed as no fresh contract could be given to any one for want of higher bid.

Somehow, the boys manage edibles or a cup of tea from outside during late night. But the worst sufferers of the canteen closure are the inmates of the girls’ hostel who are not allowed to go out of the hostel after 7 pm. They have to pass the night studying without a cup of tea.

Besides, according to the students, the most disturbing feature of the institute life is that they do not get due appraisal from their own teachers on their success.

However, there is no limit of scolding, they receive everyday.
